Biography : John Marsh
With nearly 25 years' experience as a communications professional,
John Marsh has a diverse background in corporate communications,
agency and corporate public relations, and both financial and
business writing and editing. During his career, he has garnered
in-depth experience across the spectrum of business communications,
including: writing and editing; public, media and investor relations;
and corporate and marketing communications.
Marsh is an editorial
specialist. He has written and/or edited nearly every conceivable
type of business communications piece and has won local and national
awards for his writing. He has deep experience in the financial services
industry, having worked as a banking journalist, Federal Reserve
editor and PR vice president for a national bank. He also has significant
experience in the technology and broader corporate communications
fields.
As president of Marsh Communications, he is responsible for
setting the firm's strategic direction and managing its day-to-day
business activities. He also provides strategic counsel to all clients,
develops and leads client engagements in corporate communications,
investor relations and public relations, and heads up the firm's
MarshComm Editorial Services subsidiary.
Prior to forming Marsh Communications,
Marsh served as Director of Corporate Communications for U.S. Micro
Corporation, one of North America's premier end-of-life corporate
IT asset disposition companies. He set strategy for and directed
the execution of the corporation's overall marketing, public relations
and marketing communications activities. During his tenure, he created
U.S. Micro's corporate identity program, developed the company's
trade show marketing program, directed development of its first e-commerce
Web site and wrote all of the company's marketing communications
and business-development materials.
Before joining U.S. Micro, Marsh
served as Editorial Director and senior account supervisor for the
Atlanta office of Manning, Selvage & Lee (MS&L), one of the
city's top-5 public relations firms. He supervised the firm's editorial
output, taught writing and editing classes and directed the PR programs
of national corporate financial and technology accounts. He also
served as a Group Director and Editorial Director of The William
Mills Agency, a national financial services technology PR firm.
For
four years prior to entering the agency PR business, Marsh was a
Vice President and Media Relations Manager for Wachovia Corporation,
where he managed the PR programs for the company's credit card division,
its Georgia consumer bank, and the capital markets and treasury services
divisions. He also has served as an editor at the Federal Reserve
Bank of Atlanta and as managing editor of Southern Banker magazine.
Marsh
is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism,
with a degree in magazine journalism. He also earned a Zertifikat
Deutsch als Fremdsprache (Certificate of German as a Foreign
Language) from the Goethe-Institut Atlanta.
He is a former board member
of Special Olympics Georgia and served on the public relations committee
of the Georgia Technology Forum, as well as several other civic organizations.
An avid cyclist and traveler, Marsh also coaches Little League baseball.
